Florida Tourism Day Celebrated in Tallahassee

Leaders from the tourism industry across the Sunshine State came to Tallahassee on Wednesday to showcase Florida Tourism Day.

With final numbers expected to exceed a record high 100 million tourists last year and with tourism leading to 1.2 million jobs in the Sunshine State,  the Partnership for Florida’s Tourism, which includes 11 organizations, focused on tourism on Wednesday including a social event in downtown Tallahassee.

“As we begin a new year for the tourism industry, it’s important that we maintain and build upon the momentum of last year’s record-breaking success,” said Carol Dover, the president and CEO of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association. “Tourism employs more than 1.1 million Floridians, and Florida Tourism Day is an opportunity for industry leaders to highlight the pivotal role that tourism plays in our state’s economic growth.”

“Florida’s record visitation numbers prove that the state’s investment in tourism marketing is paying off,” said Will Seccombe, the president CEO of Visit Florida. “The tourism industry generates billions of dollars in visitor spending each year, contributing to sales tax revenue and job creation. With continued support from Gov. Scott and the Florida Legislature, our state is well on its way to reaching $100 billion in travel-related spending by 2020.”
