Florida TaxWatch Looks at Tax Cut Proposals

Even as the two chambers of the Florida Legislature struggle to reconcile their budget differences--which are more than $4 billion--Florida TaxWatch released a report on Wednesday looking at some of the tax cut proposals in play. Florida TaxWatch continued to support Gov. Rick Scotts cuts to cell phone and TV service taxes and urged the House to support killing the manufacturing sales tax.

"While both the House and Senate plan to reduce the Communications Services Tax, which Florida TaxWatch has consistently supported for more than 10 years, the House is delaying an opportunity to permanently eliminate the sales tax on manufacturing machinery and equipment until 2016," said Kurt Wenner, Florida TaxWatchs VP for tax research. "Reducing this tax would improve high-wage, high-skill job creation in the manufacturing sector, and we are encouraged that the Senate is giving the proposal, supported by Gov. Rick Scott, serious consideration."
