Florida Right-to-Life Cheers Election Results

Looking over the election results from last Tuesday, Matt Ozolnieks, chairman of the Florida Right-to-Life PAC, said the numbers showed that Floridians are increasingly against abortion.

"Overall, Planned Parenthood endorsed 51 candidates statewide that appeared on the ballot Nov. 2, said Ozolnieks on Friday. Pro-abortion candidates won just 25 of these races. In contrast, Florida Right-to-Life-endorsed candidates won 75 -- a sure sign that the state continues to embrace the culture of life from Pensacola to Key West.

"These election results expand the pro-life majority that was established in the early 1990s and reinforce the fact that Florida is a solidly pro-life state, added Ozolnieks.

While eight candidates they endorsed went down to defeat in the polls, Ozolnieks said he was heartened overall by the results.

"Pro-life candidates filed to run in record numbers, and the field was strong," he said.

Of the 22 congressional candidates backed by Florida Right-to-Life, 18 prevailed. All nine of the candidates they backed for the state Senate triumphed and 44 of the 48 House candidates they backed ended up winning. Florida Right-to-Life backed Rick Scott for governor and the three Republican Cabinet candidates -- all of whom won.

"These numbers are important because they prove that more than ever a solid pro-life message resonates with the people of Florida," said Ozolnieks who added that his group went toe-to-toe with candidates backed by Planned Parenthood in 30 races -- and walked away with 22 victories.
