Florida Retail Federation Looks at St. Patrick's Day Spending
With St. Patrick’s Day next week, the Florida Retail Federation (FRF) expects a slight decrease in spending even as Americans are predicted to spend $4.4 billion on the holiday.
On Thursday, the FRF announced average St. Patrick’s spending would be $35.37, just down from the $36.52 from last year.
“Florida retailers can expect to see a nice bump in their sales in the coming weeks as millions of Floridians purchase food, clothing and decorations to celebrate this festive day with friends and family,” said Randy Miller, the president and CEO of the FRF. “Springtime in the Sunshine State always puts people in a good mood, and St. Patrick’s Day is coming along at the right time for both consumers and retailers.”
More than half of St. Patrick’s celebrants--57 percent of them--will spend on food and drink while 28 percent will buy clothes and accessories, 23 percent will spend on decorations and 17 percent will buy candy. More than 80 percent of celebrants say they will wear green on St. Patrick’s Day.
