Florida Remembers Pearl Harbor Attack

The state will be lowering flags to half mast on Tuesday to remember the 69th anniversary of the Japanese attack on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor, leading to U.S. intervention in World War II.

On Dec. 7, 1941, more than 2,400 American men and women lost their lives defending our nation at Pearl Harbor, said Gov. Charlie Crist. The attack on Pearl Harbor, 69 years ago tomorrow, was a significant moment in the life of our country. Unifying our people as our nation entered World War II, the events of that Sunday morning set a course for a strong and emboldened United States of America.

Pearl Harbor will forever be remembered as a time of mourning for the lives lost, and we will continue to honor their memory and always remember their incredible service and patriotic spirit, added Crist. They set an example for us today, as the men and women in our armed forces continue their noble tradition of courage, bravery, and dedication.

As Floridians, we are proud to honor all veterans. We are indebted to all servicemen and women for their steadfast commitment to protect the ideals and freedoms that make our country strong, continued Crist. May God continue to bless Florida, our nation, our armed forces, our veterans and their families.
