Florida Religious Conservatives Join Push for Manhattan Declaration
Floridians joined a coalition of religious and political leaders on Thursday in calling on Americans to pray for the nation and back the Manhattan Declaration, a statement calling for the rejection of abortion, support of traditional marriage and greater defense of religious liberty.
Since its publication in November 2009, around 475,000 Americans have signed the declaration which was drawn up by evangelical leader Chuck Colson, well-known for his role in Watergate as well as his work in prison ministries, Robert George from Princeton University, Dean Timothy George from Beeson Divinity School and Jim Garlow from Skyline Church and Renewing American Leadership.
More than 70 leaders, including former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee who now lives in Fort Walton Beach and John Stemberger from the Florida Family Policy Council, sent out an e-mail on Thursday asking Americans to sign the declaration and asked for the country to pray for its moral renewal.
America is in a severe spiritual crisis, wrote the leaders. Politics of either party cannot save us.We need God. And we need Him now.Positively, we believe it is not too late.At least, not yet. In fact, we might be on the cusp of the next great awakening!
