Florida Progressive: Scott Budget Caters to 'One Extreme Segment'
Tea partiers in Eustis were ecstatic about Gov. Rick Scott's lean and mean budget.
The Florida Progressive Coalition, not so much.
"Governor Scott's budget proposal is disappointing to say the least. What he's trying to do here is shift the costs of government from those who can afford it -- the wealthy and corporations -- to those who can least afford it. Cutting jobs, slashing education funding and reducing state employee compensation is no way to improve the state," said FPC leader Kenneth Quinnell.
Quinnell continues: "You don't grow jobs just by repeating the phrase 'jobs budget' enough times. By cutting investments in education and standard of living for Floridians, Scott will do more to discourage businesses bringing jobs to Florida than he'll gain by cutting corporate taxes and startup costs that are already amongst the lowest in the country.
"Scott hypocritically decried special interests in his presentation of the budget at an event where people bashed Hillary Clinton, who has nothing to do with Florida or improving Florida's economy. The fact that he presented his unrealistic budget proposal at a Tea Party event shows that he doesn't care about the people of Florida, only one extreme segment of the population."
