Florida Elections Director Returning Home Weeks Prior to Primary
Dr. Gisela Salas, the director of Division of Elections, has resigned for family commitments effective Wednesday, Secretary of State Ken Detzner informed the states supervisors of election late Monday.
I want to bring to your attention the news that Dr. Gisela Salas, our director of the Division of Elections, has accepted a new position closer to her home and family in Ocala, Detzner wrote.
She recently submitted her resignation, which is effective August 1. We are very appreciative of the work Dr. Salas accomplished during her time with the division and wish her the very best in her future pursuits.
John Boynton, the deputy secretary who has been with the state department for three years, will oversee the division for the time being, Detzner noted.
Detzner added that Jennifer Kennedy, the Department of States assistant secretary and chief of staff who oversaw the division during the last two election cycles, will also work with the division.
In her letter submitted July 13, Salas wrote that Family commitments and other opportunities have presented themselves, which I must pursue.
