Florida DOE Takes to Twitter to Talk About Common Core

The Florida Department of Education is bringing Common Core State Standards to Twitter.

The department's Twitter accountis now tweeting a "standard of the day" to over 5,700 followers on the social media website. The tweets include links to math and language arts standards and explain what students will need to know at the end of each grade.

Florida's schools will be using a blend of current standards and Common Core this year as they prepare to fully implement the standards by the 2014-2015 academic year. Kindergarten and first-grade classes are using the standards already.

CCSS has come under fire across Florida recently, as Rep. Debbie Mayfield, R-Vero Beach, recently filed legislation to put a pause on the standards and their associated assessment tests. Senate President Don Gaetz and House Speaker Will Weatherford have also been particularly vocal against the assessment tests for Common Core, saying they will be time-consuming and costly for Florida.
