Florida Dems Take Aim at David Rivera in Web Video
Democrats are clearly smelling blood in South Florida. The Florida Democratic Party released a video on Tuesday focusing on congressional candidate Rep. David Rivera of Miami who is running in the Republican primary to replace U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart. The video highlights a number of stories that have come out about Rivera, including a strange one about him running into a truck carrying mailers for a political opponent back in 2002.
Whatever happens in the primaries on Tuesday, it is increasingly looking as if there will be few chances for the Democrats to pick up a congressional seat in Florida -- and they clearly think this is one of them.
The Rivera camp quickly fired back.
"This ad further proves that the Democrat Party never let the truth get in the way of a political ad," said Sarah Bascom, a spokeswoman for Rivera. "To be clear, David Rivera has never been accused of domestic violence by anyone other than his political opponents. Even the victim in this case from 1994 has submitted a signed affidavit clearing this up once and for all."
"This ad also shows that the Democrat Party and Joe Garcia are afraid of facing David Rivera in the general election because they know that oil lobbyist and DC insider Joe Garcia cannot beat David Rivera, a conservative candidate who has cut spending and is not part of the Washington-culture of corruption," added Bascom. "Shame on the Democrat Party for further victimizing this young woman and her family, all at the request of Joe Garcia."
