Florida Dems Put Rick Scott on Blast: Scott 'Missing in Action'

The Florida Democratic Party is slamming Gov. Rick Scott over his alleged absence in the wake of the scandal over the deaths of five children with a history of interaction with child-abuse investigators from the Department of Children and Families.

"As the mother of a child with special needs, I find Rick Scott's total lack of interest in helping our state's most vulnerable childen particularly offensive,"said FDP Chair Allison Tant."By now, we should not be surprised that while Rick Scott and his allies pretend nothing is wrong, he is failing Florida's families. There's no doubt now that Rick Scott is running Florida government just as recklessly as he ran his business, and Florida's children are being neglected as a result. Where is the leadership?"

FDP called the scandal a "failure of leadership," pointing to an alleged absence of leadership and judgment from Gov. Scott during the scandal. DCF Secretary David Wilkins resigned fromhis position at the agency last week. He recently came under fire for the controversy over the deaths of four children in a six-week time frame. A fifth child died from a lacerated liver after DCF failed to act when the child suffered a broken thigh bone a few months earlier.

"David did a great job in leading the state's top child protection agency and his service is deeply appreciated," Scott said.

Allison Tant took to Twitterto speak out on the blast, calling this fight "personal."
