Florida Congressmen Push Back Against CPP From EPA

U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, led eight other Republican congressmen from Florida -- Ander Crenshaw, Ron DeSantis, Richard Nugent, Tom Rooney, Dennis Ross, Steve Southerland, Dan Webster and Ted Yoho -- in writing the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Monday. The congressmen took aim at proposed carbon emissions rules included in the Clean Power Plan (CPP) which, they insist, will lead to higher costs for Floridians.

The EPAs rule places a heavier burden on Florida than other states, despite the fact that Florida has reduced its carbon emissions by 20 percent since 2005, Bilirakis said. The CPP will result in Floridians paying more for their electricity. At a time when many Floridians are still struggling, they do not need their power costs increasing. We should be supporting an all-of-the-above energy strategy, unleashing Americas domestic, renewable and nonrenewable resources, to reduce the costs of groceries and the costs for heating and cooling your home.
