Florida Chamber Backs John Couriel for Senate

The Florida Chamber of Commerce has endorsed John Couriel for the Florida Senate District 35 seat held long-serving South Florida legislator Sen. Gwen Margolis, D-Miami.

John Couriel understands that to secure Floridas future, businesses need the ability to grow and all Floridians deserve a cost-effective, market-minded and fiscally responsible government, David Hart, executive vice president for the Florida Chamber of Commerce, stated in a release.

John Couriel brings a new and energetic voice to Senate District 35 and is committed to helping build a stable and predictable business climate that is needed for private-sector job creation.

Couriel, a former prosecutor, heads into the general election with most of the $132,272 he has raised still on hand.

Margolis, who served in the Florida House in the late 1970s, is in her third term in the Senate. She served from 1980 to 1992, the final two years as president, 2002 to 2008, and returned in 2010.

Besides a $160,000 loan to herself, Margolis has raised $115,927. Like Couriel, the vast majority of the money Margolis has raised has yet to be spent.
