Florida Chamber Backs Greg Evers and House Candidates
On Monday, the Florida Chamber of Commerce unveiled its second round of endorsements for state legislative candidates.
Marion Johnson, the senior vice president of political operation for the Florida Chamber, said that her organization weighed candidates commitments to free-market solutions and creating jobs and economic growth in the Sunshine State.
Interviewing candidates to determine where they stand on free-enterprise issues is essential to helping ensure we endorse candidates who arent afraid to make bold pro-jobs, pro-business decisions once they are elected to office, said Johnson. The Florida Chambers thorough and intense endorsement process sends a very strong signal that Floridas business community can feel confident in supporting these candidates.
David Hart, the executive vice president of the Florida Chamber, said the legislators who share his organizations agenda will help pave the way for a better future for the state.
To secure Florida's future, we need a Legislature that focuses on free-enterprise principles and solutions, said Hart. Employers need stability and predictability to help create private-sector jobs and grow Floridas economy, and we are pleased to support each of these candidates and their commitment to support Floridas job creators.
The Florida Chamber backed Sen. Greg Evers, R-Baker, in his bid for another term, but that was the only Senate candidate to win their backing in this round of endorsements. While he faces no opposition, the Florida Chamber backed Rep. Stephen Precourt, R-Orlando, for re-election. Three current Republican incumbents -- Rep. Frank Artilles of Miami, Rep. George Moriatis of Fort Lauderdale and Rep. Pat Rooney of Palm Beach Gardens -- also garnered the Florida Chambers backing. The Florida Chamber also threw its support to former Rep. Carl Domino who is facing a crowded Republican primary as he seeks to return to the House. Other candidates who got the Chambers support on Monday include Democrats Shannon Currie and Sheldon Libson, and Republican hopefuls Frank Farkas, Michael Grant and Joe Wicker.
