Flags at Half-Staff Saturday in Polk, Levy Counties for Lakeland Soldier

State and national flags will be flown at half-staff at the Capitol and outside the county courthouses in Polk and Levy counties on Saturday in honor of Army specialist Ryan M. Lumley of Lakeland.

Lumley, 21, was one of three soldiers killed on Dec. 3 in an explosion in the Wardak Province, Afghanistan, as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

All three soldiers were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team of Fort Bliss, Texas. The other two were from California.

The memorial was ordered Friday by Gov. Rick Scott.

The order also includes flags outside the city halls in Lakeland, where Lumley lived prior to his deployment, and Cedar Key, where he attended high school prior to enlisting in the Army after graduating in 2008.
