FL Right To Life President Urges Crist to Support Ultrasounds Measure
Florida Right To Life President Carrie Eisnaugle sent Gov. Charlie Crist a letter, urging him to support a measure the Legislature passed requiring women considering abortions in the first trimester to have ultrasounds.
This bill prevents taxpayer funding of abortion, which is extremely unpopular with the people, wrote Eisnaugle,
I know many women who regret their abortion, because they later found out the truth about the baby developing inside them, she continued. Of course for some women having an ultrasound would not affect their decision either way. And many women will refuse to see the ultrasound images, which is their choice.
Eisnaugle acknowledged the pressure the newly independent governor is under. I believe that in your heart you know allowing this legislation to pass is the right thing to do, she wrote. I also know that you are under tremendous pressure to veto the bill.
In the meantime, House Republicans sent out a release this morning in support of the measure which the House Democrats promptly attacked in a response.
