FL Democrats Rally Behind Kagan

Florida Democrats are praising President Barack Obamas nomination of Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court.

"As the first woman dean of Harvard Law School and the nation's first woman Solicitor General, Kagan is a pioneer in her own right who is driven by clear thinking, not ideology, said Congressman Kendrick Meek, who is running for the U.S. Senate. Her judicial temperament, intellect, and ability to bridge opposing viewpoints and build consensus make her a fitting choice to replace Justice Stevens.

Meeks comments were echoed by his fellow Florida Democrats.

"Kagan is possessed of both a brilliant mind and a keen sense of justice, and she has earned the respect of people on both sides of the aisle for her lifetime of work, said Florida Democratic Party chairwoman Karen Thurman. "Solicitor General Kagan has proven herself willing and eager to hear all sides of an argument, to fully weigh all viewpoints, and to build consensus around important and contentious issues of law and policy - all qualities that will serve her well as a Supreme Court Justice. As a Justice, I am certain that Solicitor General Kagan will uphold the rights of the American people.
