First Lady Ann Scott Promotes Reading on Weeklong Literacy Tour

Florida's First Lady Ann Scott will be heading around the state this week to promote literacy in the Sunshine State, according to a press release from Florida Department of Education.

On Monday, Scott kicked off a statewide tour in Tampa in conjunction with the department's 2016 Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida!, which will take place from Jan. 25-29. The weeklong "celebration" aims to raise awareness for literacy programs and projects offered by the FDOE.

“Strong reading skills set students up for success in the classroom and beyond, and I am honored to have the opportunity to help our state’s students foster an appreciation for literacy,” said First Lady Ann Scott. “As a grandmother, I cherish the time I spend reading to my four young grandsons and seeing their eyes light up as they are introduced to new and exciting stories. I encourage all Florida students and families to participate in Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! by making reading a part of their daily routines.”

Scott will visit six schools on her literacy tour:
·         Cannella Elementary School in Tampa

·         Tangelo Park Elementary in Orlando

·         MetroWest Elementary in Orlando

·         Thornebrooke Elementary in Orlando

·         Southside Elementary in Starke

·         Starke Elementary in Starke
