FHA: Hospitals Lead to $54 Billion and 740k Jobs Across Sunshine State

With the help of a team from the University of Florida, the Florida Hospital Association (FHA) released a study on Monday revealing that hospitals create almost 740,000 jobs across the Sunshine State, leading to $54 billion across the state which is more than 7.3 percent of the states GDP.

"This report underscores the economic contribution our hospitals provide to their local communities each and every day," said FHA President Bruce Rueben. "This is especially important at a time when Florida has the fourth highest unemployment rate in the nation."

"I am proud of the strong financial contribution hospitals provide to our states economy," said Lars Houmann, the president and CEO of Florida Hospital Orlando and current chairman of the Florida Hospital Association Board of Trustees. "This report reminds lawmakers of the importance of thorough thinking before approving budget cuts that impact our hospital employees and the businesses who serve our organizations."

The report can be found here.
