FFF Calls for Rick Scott to Make 'Bold Reforms' in Education

With Florida placing fifth in Education Weeks Quality Counts survey of the states, the Foundation for Floridas Future (FFF), founded by former Gov. Jeb Bush, cheered the news -- and called for new Gov. Rick Scott to keep pushing by embracing "bold reforms."

Congratulations to the students, parents, teachers, lawmakers and policymakers of Florida for their hard work in improving the quality of education in our state, said Patricia Levesque, executive director of the group. Florida has made tremendous progress but we cant rest until our education system creates the opportunity for every child to achieve their full learning potential.Although Florida is closing the achievement gap, far too many poor and minority children are still not gaining the knowledge and skills to succeed in the increasingly competitive global economy.

I look forward to working with the Florida Legislature and Governor Scott to advance bold reforms to close the achievement gap once and for all, added Levesque. Modernizing the teaching profession, rewarding great teachers with great salaries, providing greater choices for Florida families and harnessing the power of technology to personalize education for every student are among the reforms that foster even greater student achievement.
