Far Outpacing GOP Challenger on Money, Alcee Hastings Appears Headed for Another Term

Veteran Democratic U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings appears headed for another term in Congress. With financial figures in from the second quarter of 2010, Hastings has raised more than $610,000 and has slightly less than $300,000 in the bank.

Republican challenger Bernard Sansaricq has raised $42,793 -- with $20,274 of that from individual contributions, $4,675 from PACs and $13,415 coming from the candidate himself. Sansaricq has an impressive background: he was president of the Haitian Senate and has worked on human rights issues. But his campaign has been burning through money -- as of June 30, Sansaricqs team has less than $500 cash on hand.

Its a tough district for any Republican to carry in the first place -- John Kerry and Barack Obama carried it with more than 75 percent each -- and if Sansaricq wants to upset Hastings, he needs to greatly increase his fund-raising efforts. Until then, this race seems a lock for Hastings.
