Mother's Day is right around the corner, and U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, D-Fla., chose a particularly odd way of celebrating it.
In an email sent to supporters on Saturday, Frankel paid homage to her mother in commemoration of the holiday.
"My mom, Dorothy, has always been an inspiration for me," wrote Frankel. "She instilled values of equality and justice in me from an early age -- values that I still carry with me in my work. She was the first to teach me to always stand up for what I believe in."
Frankel then segues into what her mother has taught her as a rallying battle cry for women's reproductive rights, a position she feels the GOP restricts.
"This is why I have always stood with women -- especially when it comes to their reproductive choices. Why Floridas GOP would want to further restrict a womans right to choose is beyond me. Their radical bill that requires women to get two letters from doctors stating their abortion is medically necessary is not only disrespectful, but insulting to women who have been making decisions about children since the beginning of time," she said.
Frankel then urged supporters to "support women's reproductive choices" and sign their names to her mailing list.
"Florida women dont need government interference in their medical decisions. However you are celebrating, I hope you are also standing up for what you believe in."
