Ellyn Bogdanoff Condemns 'Angel of Death' Ads
The Democratic Party of Florida may be feeling haunted by the ghosts of the 2010 'Enthusiasm Gap.'
In an attempt to chip away at support for one of its opponents, Republican Senate District 25 candidate Ellyn Bogdanoff, the party began circulating ads using dripping-blood-style writing in its Halloween-themed, Angel of Death ads.
The online ad shows Bogdanoff's face photoshopped onto the body of the Grim Reaper, with the title 'Ellyn Bogdanoff, the self-described Angel of Death' scrawled across the top of the page.
Lower down there's a link that calls her the 'Insurance Lobby Zombie,' which has another image of her modified to look like she has a hole in her face, and splattered blood across her shirt.
"I think it's bizarre," Bogdanoff said. "I think it's a new low in politics."
Besides the over-the-top Halloween motif, Bogdanoff says the ad is misleading. In the ad she's called the self-described Angel of Death, "because she kills bills she doesn't like."
But she says she got that tongue-in-cheek title when she was working under former House Speaker Marco Rubio. She was the majority whip and as such was required to tell people when their bills weren't going survive.
Rubio had jokingly said, "It's a great day in Florida Especially when you haven't heard from the Angel of Death, Ellyn Bogdanoff."
"It was tongue-in-cheek," said Bogdanoff. "It's a difficult thing when you have to tell a member their bill is not going to make it through the process. It's not an easy job, but it was my job and I did it."
She said, it's certainly not something she ever bragged about.
"I think it's pathetic," she continued. "I think it's one thing to talk about the issues -- and I've never had a problem pointing out my votes -- but to superimpose my head on a grim reaper or zombie, I think it's probably a new low in politics."
