Edison College Names Former Rep. Goodlette Interim President

Former state representative Dudley Goodlette was given a $200,000 contract Saturday to repair the image of Edison State College, filling in for the suspended president who was earning $837,000 a year.

The Edison State board of trustees selected Goodlette, a former trustee who spent eight years in the state Legislature, as the interim president over Miami-Dade College provost Kathie Sigler.

The contract for the Naples Republican is good until Aug. 1.

The Naples Daily News reports a permanent president should be in place before the 2012 semester.

They chose (Goodlette) for his strong ties to the community in the hope he could improve the colleges image while providing strong leadership as it pursues reaccreditation, the Naples Daily News reported.

Kenneth Walker, the schools president since 1992,was placed on leave in November following months of students and faculty calling for his firing for improper course substitutions, the termination of several administrators, and miscommunication about the college's unaccredited nursing program.
