Ed Homan Wants to Limit the Procession of Designated Speakers

While some retiring House members have complained about term-limits during their farewell addresses, Rep. Ed Homan, R-Tampa, said he still supported them but noted that term-limits paved the way for more power from special interest groups. Homan said one way of taking power away from the special interest groups would be to stop naming future speakers until after they have served four years in the House. Right now there are two speakers in waiting in the House who have served less than four years -- Will Weatherford, R-Wesley Chapel, who was elected in 2006 and is penciled in to serve as speaker in 2013 and 2014, and Chris Dorworth, R-Lake Mary, who was elected in November 2007 and is scheduled to wield the gavel in 2015 and 2016.
