Dwight Bullard Calls for U.S. Attorney General to Investigate Pam Bondi's Conduct
District 39 state Sen. Dwight Bullard called on United States Attorney General Loretta Lynch on Wednesday to launch an investigation into the conduct of Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi relating to campaign donations solicited from presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
“There have been many questions surrounding claims of fraud at Trump University,” Bullard said in a written statement to the media. “There is even a greater concern of whether a quid pro quo exists within the office for favorable treatment in exchange for campaign assistance.”
Bullard is basing his request for a federal probe on stories in the Florida media. He said, "News reports indicate that the Florida Attorney General's office was contemplating the matter of investigating claims on behalf of Floridians who said they had been victims of Trump University.
"They also detailed that ... Bondi’s campaign was given $25,000 from the Trump Foundation, followed just days later by her office’s decision not to initiate any action against the school. Recent news reports now reveal that the attorney general personally solicited the campaign contribution."
In his letter sent Wednesday to the U.S. Attorney General’s Office in Washington, Bullard said an independent, objective probe is needed to assure Floridians that their best interests are being protected by the state’s chief legal officer.
“The job and role of the attorney general is to be an advocate for the people of the state,” Bullard continued. “If the attorney general is not conducting the people's business, that calls into question her true agenda.”
