Drinking on the Job: Imbibing the Lubricant of Political Intercourse

Will Deborah Cox-Roush get the sympathy vote at Saturday's RPOF meeting in Orlando?

A new e-mail citing nasty statistics from Mothers Against Drunk Driving assailed the party vice chairman for her 2004 drunk driving arrest and added more backroom intrigue to the RPOF chairman contest.

Whoever sent the e-mail -- MADD officials say it wasn't them -- may, in a weird way, end up helping Cox-Roush's candidacy.

A conservative blogger who tracks RPOF activities privately told Sunshine State News: "A lot of people in the party have (DUI) records. This publicity could just generate a sympathy vote."

"Personally, I think it will just blow over."

If there's any doubt that alcohol and politics mix, just check out the beverages imbibed in candidates' hospitality suites after Friday night's candidate forum at Epcot's Swan and Dolphin resort.

PS: Democrats do it, too.
