Dorothy Hukill's Fundraising Slows Down in Second Quarter
After defeating Frank Bruno in 2012, Sen. Dorothy Hukill, R-Port Orange, started off with impressive fundraising in the first quarter of 2013 but her pace slowed considerably in the second quarter. Hukill raised more than $77,000 in the first quarter of 2013 and spent around $1,250. The second quarter was a different story as Hukill raised $15,000 and spent around $7,070.
With just under $84,000 in the bank and no opponents so far, Hukills slow quarter shouldnt come back to haunt her. Still, her district, which contains parts of Lake, Marion and Volusia counties, is competitive. Democrats make up 39 percent of the district while Republicans constitute 37 percent of it. But as Hukills impressive victory over Bruno shows, Republicans can do well here. Theres a reason Rick Scott beat Alex Sink in this district by 5 percent in 2010. Despite her sluggish fundraising in the last quarter Hukill should be in fine shape come 2014.
