Sen. Dorothy Hukill, R-Port Orange, continues to push her bill to create a poet laureate for Florida. On Wednesday, Hukills bill unanimously passed the Government Oversight and Accountability Committee.
These types of creative outlets allow students to strengthen their public speaking, grow their knowledge of words, while sharing their passion with others, said Hukill about the volunteer position she is proposing. The state poet laureate position is an important role. If just one student discovers a love of words and writing, they have done their job.
Hukills bill now heads for the Education Committee.
