The Doctor Is In: Akshay Desai to Chair RPOF Finance Committee
Dr. Akshay Desai has been named chairman of the Republican Party of Florida's Finance Committee.
"On behalf of all of Florida's Republicans, I am grateful that Dr. Desai has agreed to accept this crucial role," said RPOF Chairman Lenny Curry.
"In this election year we need the resources for victory, and Dr. Desai's long history of work for the state and our party make him a proven leader. AK and I are ready to roll up our sleeves and win."
Desai, who Gov. Rick Scott called "a tireless advocate for Florida and our Republican Party," is chairman of the board, president and CEO of Universal Health Care Group, and serves the health-care community through several associations.
The New Port Richey resident founded Universal Health Care and American Managed Care LLC in 2002. From 1999-2000, Desai served as chief of staff and chairman of the board of trustees for Northside Hospital and Heart Clinic, as well as St. Petersburg General Hospital.
Winner of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2007, Desai is a member of the Florida State Board of Education and has served on the Florida Council of 100 since 2010.
Desai received his medical degree from Government Medical College in India, and earned a masters degree in Public Health Administrative Medicine from the George Washington University.
