Do You Agree with Judge Jackie Fulford's Ruling Against State Employee Pension Contributions?

Leon County Circuit Court Judge Jackie Fulford ruled Tuesday that a law to require Florida's state employees to contribute 3 percent of their pay into their retirement programs -- like most private-sector employees contribute to their pension funds -- is unconstitutional.

The Florida Education Association, alongside other public-employee unions, filed the lawsuit that argued state legislators violated the Florida Constitution and that contract changes have to occur through collective bargaining negotiations.

Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, and House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, have said an appeal will be filed.
