Do Not Call, Telemarketing Top Complaints by Floridians
Do Not Call, Telemarketing and Credit Banking continue to dominate the complaints of Floridians, according to Commissioner Adam Putnam.
The three topics dominated the monthly list of calls from Floridians to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services 1-800- HELP-FLA consumer hotline in May.
More than 3,900 complaints were filed by consumers in May, during which time the department received 26,024 calls and 2,175 emails for consumer assistance and information.
The state added 222,882 numbers -- 98,324 individuals -- to Floridas Do Not Call List as of May 24.
These numbers will be effective July 1. Currently, there are 71,460 numbers and 60,638 subscribers on the list. Starting July 1, there will be 294,342 numbers and 158,962 Florida subscribers on the list.
The $10 fee for new subscriptions, and $5 renewal, was removed April 23 as a result of a measure passed by the Florida Legislature --House Bill 749, sponsored by Rep. Dana Young, R-Tampa, and Sen. Anitere Flores, R-Miami --during the 2012 session.
