Dennis Ross Wants 'Strong, Conservative Leadership' in Congress as John Boehner Leaves

Part of the GOP congressional leadership as senior deputy majority whip, U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Fla., called for “strong, conservative leadership” now that U.S. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, is on the way out.

“I support Speaker Boehner’s decision to step down,” Ross said on Friday after Bohener announced his exit. “Soon, our conference will decide on a new speaker and possibly other new leaders. There is a clamor in the grassroots throughout America for strong, conservative leadership willing to stand up to the president. That wave must be reflected in our Republican Conference.

“I have long said that we cannot simply be the 'party of no.’ Republicans in Congress must offer credible alternatives to Obamacare, we must take up immigration reform that secures our border, and we must cut spending, balance our budget and reform our tax code so that Americans have more money in their pockets,” Ross added.

Ross opened the door to playing a larger part in the GOP leadership. “As a strong conservative that was elected to change the way Washington operates, I will spend the next few days praying and talking to my family about what role I can play in that effort,” Ross said on Friday.
