Dennis Ross Looks to Limit NSA Data in New Bill

On Friday, U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Fla., introduced a bill which would require the FBI to investigate specific groups or individuals and forces the NSA to limit collecting information to groups and people being investigated. Ross made it clear that his bill, which he dubbed the Relevancy Act, was a response to the FBI ordering Verizon to send all its caller information over to the NSA,

The law requires that the records be relevant to the investigation, Ross said on Friday. Conducting mass surveillance on all records from every Verizon subscriber goes far beyond the scope of the law and is an invasion of our freedoms and privacy.

This bill provides a starting point to make essential reforms, Ross added. I look forward to working with the committee to ensure that we as a country keep our citizens safe from terrorist attacks while protecting our personal freedoms.
