Dennis Ross Backs Censure of Obama Over Gun Control Executive Action

U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Fla., part of the congressional leadership as senior deputy majority whip, announced on Friday afternoon he was backing a measure censuring President Barack Obama over his use of executive action to push gun control.

Ross becomes the second Florida Republican to co-sponsor U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo’s, R-Miss., censure resolution. U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., was an original co-sponsor who backed the bill on Thursday.

“President Obama has repeatedly ignored the separation of powers our forefathers established to prevent any one person from possessing too much control over our government and the American people,” Ross said.  “The president continues to circumvent Congress when he does not get his way within the realms of our legislative process, taking matters into his own hands and violating the Constitution. There is a reason the framers placed presidential powers within Article II, not Article I, of the Constitution.

“Today, I co-sponsored H. Res. 582, the Resolution to Censure the President, because President Obama’s unchecked rein of power grabs and egregious executive overreach must be stopped,” Ross added. “From limiting Americans’ Second Amendment rights to refusing to enforce immigration laws and opening our borders to Syrian migrants, the president time-and-again takes unilateral action to deliberately ignore the will and concerns of the American people.

“This censure clearly establishes the House’s intent with regard to the law in the event of any future congressional proceedings involving the president’s actions,” Ross said in conclusion. “Enough is enough, and I will continue to hold this lawless president accountable for his unconstitutional ploys.”
