Dems Going After Rick Scott for the Obama Economy
Having lost every statewide race in 2010 and seeing the Republicans control veto-proof majorities of both chambers of the Florida Legislature, the Florida Democratic Party is on the attack, trying to link every Republican in the state to Gov. Rick Scott. On Tuesday, the Democrats launched a new website, attacking Scotts record -- and a host of other issues. Some of their attacks seem a bit off -- for example blaming Scott for the states high rate of home foreclosures and pointing to a report released in March 2011, two months after the governor took office.
While the Democrats will look to run against Scott, there are other politicians, namely President Barack Obama and Democrat U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, who have a lot riding on 2012 -- and the economy will play a large role in their fortunes in Florida. The question is, will Florida voters blame Scott for the economy -- or the president, who will have been in the White House for four years, and his allies like Nelson -- who has been on the political stage for decades.
