Democrats Don't Have Candidate Against David Jolly, DCCC Backs NPA Candidate
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) announced on Friday that it is backing retired Army Col. Ed Jany against U.S. Rep. David Jolly, R-Fla., despite him running with no party affiliation.
An American hero, Col. Janys service, independence and proven ability to bring people together to get results is exactly whats missing from the broken politics of Washington, said U.S. Rep. Steve Israel, D-N.Y., the chairman of the DCCC, on Friday. Democrats are proud to support Col. Jany and confident he will run an aggressive, successful campaign. Congressman David Jollys reckless Republican Congress is repelling Americans like Col. Ed Jany who are fed up with the Republican agenda that hurts women, seniors and the middle class instead of focusing on solving challenges that matter most to Pinellas residents.
Jany had been a registered Republican but moved to the Democrats. But Jany didnt switch quick enough since Florida requires candidates to be members for their party for a year before qualifying.
Despite this being a swing district and Jolly edging former state CFO Alex Sink in a special election to win in March, Democrats do not have a candidate in one of the most competitive congressional districts in Florida.
