Democrats Ask Pam Bondi for Trayvon Martin updates
The Florida Democratic congressional delegation sent a letter to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi expressing concerns over the Trayvon Martin case.
The letter asks the attorney generals office to keep the six Democrats -- Alcee L. Hastings, Miramar, Frederica Wilson, Miami Gardens, Ted Deutch, Boca Raton, Kathy Castor, Tampa, Corrine Brown, Jacksonville, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Weston -- updated on the states investigation.
The letter:
We write to express our grave concern over the handling of the Trayvon Martin case. It is clear that questions must be answered about the events that have transpired over the past month. Therefore, we were pleased to learn that a new state attorney, Angela Corey of the 4th Judicial Circuit, has been assigned to investigate this tragic incident, and that a task force will convene at the conclusion of this investigation.
We remain troubled that this incident occurred on Feb. 26, 2012, and yet Mr. George Zimmerman has not been arrested. As members of the Florida congressional delegation, we request that you keep us apprised of your findings, and provide us with a comprehensive briefing at the conclusion of your investigation.
We cannot let the standard of our judicial process be overlooked in this matter. As you know, there are a number of laws, decisions, and procedures involved in both what happened to Mr. Martin, and the subsequent actions of the Sanford Police Department. We sincerely hope that your office will do everything in its power to find answers as to what went wrong in order to prevent an incident like this from happening in the future.
