Democratic Group Challenges LeMieux's Commitment to Jewish Seniors

Expressing concern about George LeMieux's record as a U.S. senator, the National Jewish Democratic Council challenged him to "come clean" about his position on budget cuts.

In advance of LeMieux's appearance at the Republican Jewish Coalition, the NJDC stated:

"The GOP's budget proposal is toxic for Medicare and Medicaid and would imperil the lives of Florida's very significant population of Jewish seniors. Does LeMieux stand with Florida's Jewish seniors, or does he stand with the tea party?"

The challenge by the Democratic group, which claimed LeMieux has a "history of not standing for the values of his Jewish constituents," doesn't mean other Republican Senate hopefuls are off the hook. A person close to the organization said the NJDC would look "critically" at all candidates in the GOP field, including Adam Hasner, who is Jewish.

LeMieux, who served 16 months in the Senate filling Mel Martinez's unexpired term, was not immediately available for comment.
