Dem 2012 Candidate Randall Terry to Protest GOP Funding Planned Parenthood
Pro-life activist Randall Terry, the founder of Operation Rescue, who may be best known to Floridians for serving as a spokesman for the parents of Teri Schiavo, announced last month that he was entering the Democratic presidential primaries to take on President Barack Obama in 2012 -- but now the Republicans are in his sights.
Terry will be leading a sit-in in Washington on Wednesday, hoping that the new Republican majority in the U.S. House will not cave in during budget negotiations with the Democratic-controlled U.S. Senate over federal funding of Planned Parenthood.
"Will Speaker Boehner guarantee that the House members of the conference committee will not allow Planned Parenthood funding to be restored? asked Terry on Tuesday morning. If not, the recent House votes are just a scam.
Terry pointed to the House voting to repeal the federal health-care law backed by Obama, but not defunding it, as a recent example of why conservatives need to hold the Republicans feet to the fire.
Overall, we must not think we have any real victory whatsoever, any more than the House overturn of Obamacare was a victory, said Terry before mentioning that U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Ind., tried to defund the health-care programs. To prove my point one more time, when King asked the Rules Committee to allow him to introduce a bill to actually defund Obamacare, the leadership shot him down.
So, they gave us an empty victory with the vote to overturn Obamacare, and betrayed us when they could have actually defunded it, said Terry in closing.
