Debbie Wasserman Schultz Names 2016 Convention Team

U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., hasn’t exactly covered herself in glory at her post as chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) since the 2012 presidential election but in Philadelphia on Monday she named the team overseeing the the 2016 Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC).

“Philadelphia is the birthplace of American democracy, rich in history and tradition, and we could not be more thrilled to bring the 2016 Democratic National Convention to that great city to nominate the next president of the United States” said Wasserman Schultz. “The team we have put together showcases the diversity and talent of the Democratic Party, and they will work closely with our partners in Philadelphia to create an impactful event for the American people. This convention is our opportunity to highlight what Democrats have accomplished through President Obama’s leadership and to share our vision for the future by nominating the 45th president of the United States.”

Matthew Butler, the former CEO of Media Matters for America, will be the DNCC’s chief of staff while old Obama White House hand Zoe Garmendia will join as the deputy CEO for logistics. Travis Dredd, who was the convention chief of staff last time out, will be deputy CEO for convention-complex management while April Mellody, a former staffer for U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., will be deputy CEO for communications.
