Debbie Wasserman Schultz Draws Fire on Shutdown in RNC Robocalls
On Monday, the Republican National Committee (RNC) hammered U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., in robocalls made to her district concerning the shutdown. The RNC targeted Wasserman Schultz in her role as chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Similar calls were sent to voters in Nevada, home state of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. The RNC also launched calls against three Senate Democrats who are expected to have tough contests in 2014: Mark Begich of Alaska, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Kay Hagan of North Carolina.
While Democrats played politics, Republicans in the House of Representatives took action to pass bipartisan legislation to make sure our veterans receive the benefits they earned, said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus about the calls. Between jeopardizing the benefits for our veterans to shutting down the World War II Memorial, Democrats and President Obama are trying to make this shutdown as painful as possible for everyone. These brave Americans and their families have sacrificed so much for our country, its only fair that Senator Reid brings this vote to the floor.
Its imperative their constituents speak out so the government can end this shutdown and keep our commitment to the people who defended this country, Priebus added.
Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz thinks this shutdown is a game, the narrator of the call says. She voted to cut off Floridas veterans and their benefits while the government is shut down. In a bipartisan vote, the House of Representatives wanted to make sure our veterans got the benefits they earned fighting for our freedoms. These men and women served our country with honor but Debbie Wasserman Schultz would rather put partisan politics ahead of honoring our commitment to the people who defended this country.
The narrator of the call urges listeners to contact Wasserman Schultz and tell her our veterans deserve their benefits.
