Debbie Wasserman Schultz Draws Fire From Prominent Jewish Leader
Craig Weiner, the president of the Holocaust Learning and Education Fund and one of the leaders of South Florida’s Jewish community, slammed U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., for her support of President Barack Obama’s deal with Iran over its nuclear program.
“It is increasingly clear that Debbie Wasserman Schultz represents Debbie Wasserman Schultz and no longer represents the will of her constituency,” Weiner said. “She has become so politically immersed, that she has lost reason and has placed her political ambitions ahead of all else. The evidence of this is clearly the Iran deal in which the vast majority of those who elected her are opposed, yet she felt the political pressure to place her own career above all else including the will of her constituents and the safety of both America and Israel, as compared to her other Democratic colleagues such as Senator Schumer who quickly announced his opposition to the president’s Iran deal.”
Weiner also jabbed Wasserman Schultz for attacking U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., for having the support of Harlan Crow, a prominent Texas businessman. Crow has a large historical collection including World War Two memorabilia. Through her role as chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), Wasserman Schultz hit Rubio for holding an event with Crow.
“She has additionally invoked the horrors of the Holocaust into her political rhetoric by criticizing a Florida senator and presidential candidate (Rubio) for attending an event at the home of a non-Jewish person during a Jewish holiday, which they would not be subject to celebrating, who has assembled a substantial collection of historically significant items including fine art by artists such as Monet, Renoir and others, as well as a collection of World War II memorabilia which includes items from Winston Churchill, Dwight Eisenhower, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Margaret Thatcher, Lenin, as well as 2 paintings and the book Mein Kampf signed by Hitler,” Weiner said. “Her politically driven attempt to invoke the Holocaust into the political arena is to belittle it's sanctity to a new low.”
