Debbie Mayfield Backs Rebecca Negron for Congress

State Rep. Debbie Mayfield, R-Vero Beach, announced on Thursday she was backing Martin County School Board Member Rebecca Negron in the crowded Republican primary to replace U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla.

Debbie Mayfield“I believe Rebecca Negron is the best candidate in the race for Congressional District 18 to serve our Treasure Coast in Washington,” Mayfield said before noting Negron's opposition to Common Core. Mayfield has filed legislation to repeal Common Core in the Sunshine State.  “If elected, I know she will work tirelessly on the issues that matter most to our communities – she will fight Common Core, she will make our economy stronger while protecting our consumers, and she will ensure our government is run efficiently.  I encourage you to vote for a conservative that has the background and passion to make our Treasure Coast the best it can be, and that is Rebecca Negron.”

“I greatly appreciate the support of Representative Mayfield, a true conservative leader right here in the Treasure Coast,” said Negron. “Debbie and I agree on many issues, such as putting education back into the hands of local communities, protecting our precious waterways and estuaries, and boosting our economy and creating jobs.  It is encouraging to have the support from local leaders, like Representative Mayfield, as I look to represent this great district in Congress.”

Mayfield is currently running for the state Senate where Sen. Joe Negron, R-Stuart, the congressional candidate’s husband, will be the next president.
