Dean Cannon Sends Bills Crist Vetoed -- Including SB 6 and Ultrasounds -- Back to Committee

House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, informed members on Monday that he was going to allow committee chairs the option of pushing legislation that was vetoed by Gov. Charlie Crist last year -- including measures on teacher performance pay reform and mandating ultrasounds for women considering abortions.

Several bills vetoed by former Governor Charlie Crist remain available for override by the Florida Legislature, noted Cannon in a memo sent out to representatives on Monday. I am directing the committee chairs to evaluate potential veto overrides in their area and, should they find a candidate for an override, to conduct a public hearing on the bill. The House will take up any override formally recommended by a committee.

Cannon sent the teacher performance pay measure back to the Education Committee and the ultrasound measure to the Health and Human Services Committee.
