Dean Cannon Backs Mike Haridopolos to Take on Bill Nelson in 2012
While there were problems between the two chambers in the dying moments of the 2011 legislative session, state House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, backed his Senate counterpart, President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, for the Republican nomination to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012. Earlier in the year, Cannon offered strong words of support for Haridopolos and officially endorsed him on Tuesday.
"Mike Haridopolos is a trusted friend, a valued legislative partner, and a much-needed voice for conservative principles in Washington, D.C., said Cannon. I am confident that Mike will tackle the challenges facing our nation with the same passion and vigor with which he has fought to bring much-needed reforms to Florida.
"Mike is someone who actually stands up for what he believes in when the chips are down, not just someone who will talk in sound bites, added Cannon. I am confident that he is the candidate that can finally retire Bill Nelson.
"I am honored and humbled to have Speaker Cannon's support in this campaign, as he has stood steadfastly with me in bringing much-needed reforms to Florida," said Haridopolos. "Speaker Cannon is a great leader who has worked with me in tackling entitlement reforms, cutting taxes, and ensuring that government lives within its means. I couldn't ask for a better partner in the Florida Legislature and I look forward to having the speaker join me on the campaign trail.
