Deal Could Bring Gun Control Bill to U.S. Senate Floor

Senators have reached a compromise to close the gun-show loophole and expand background checks for gun buyers, a move that could breath life into Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's gun-control legislation.

U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin, D-West Va., and Pat Toomey, R-Penn., are expected to announce the deal Wednesday, reports Politico. It would essentially expand background checks for commercial gun sales and is expected to garner enough Republican support to take the gun bill to the Senate floor Thursday.

Documents obtained by Politico reveal the bipartisan agreement calls for sellers and buyers to meet at a representative licensed to conduct a background check and who would keep the record of the transaction not the federal government.

The senators' press conference is set for 11 am.
