David Rivera Rips into Democrats on Spending
Freshman Republican U.S. Rep. David Rivera is ranked as one of the most vulnerable congressional incumbents come 2012 due to ethics questions. But Rivera showed on Friday that he has no intention of going down without a fight, firing back at Democrats on spending.
Democrats in the Senate and the White House have failed to lead in the debate on cutting federal spending, said Rivera. They threatened to reject the House-sponsored continuing resolution before the House even approved it, and they have yet to present a credible alternative that truly cuts federal spending
This week, Senate Democrats voted down $60 billion in cuts, and their partys own proposal to cut just $10 billion in spending received even fewer votes, continued Rivera. Democrats need to heed the call of the American people and get to work on cutting federal spending. We are facing a $1.6 trillion annual deficit, and recent reports show that February saw the highest ever monthly deficit at $222.5 billion.
Until the White House and Democrats in the Senate get serious about joining the debate to cut federal spending, employers will continue to hesitate to create jobs, and the burden of debt will continue to pile on future generations, said Rivera in closing. I hope that the president and Senate Democrats will come around and work with House Republicans to produce a responsible plan that helps get people back to work as opposed to simply ignoring the deepening debt crisis.
