David Rivera: House GOP Retreat Should Focus on Economy
Its a busy weekend for Republicans at both the state and national level. While the RNC meets to elect a chair and the RPOF convenes to select its leader, newly inaugurated U.S. Rep. David Rivera joins fellow congressional Republicans in a retreat in Baltimore.
Rivera said on Friday that he was looking forward to the opportunity.
"This weekend we are getting to work for the American people," Rivera said. "I look forward to meeting with our House Republican leaders, and with my other colleagues, as we discuss the ways that we will put our plans into action.
"The top order of business for the weekend is the economy, added Rivera. We have a $13 trillion national debt that has grown tremendously in recent years because of a congressional leadership that made no effort to control spending and piled debt on our country now, and on our future generations.
"Now we begin to tackle this task of shrinking our national debt, and during this retreat we will discuss how to do so; including ensuring that any spending bill that is introduced in the House is balanced with an equal spending cut somewhere else, continued Rivera. "Laying out these plans for shrinking the national debt and cutting spending is the beginning of putting our country on the right path so that our economy grows and businesses feel comfortable creating jobs again."
