David Rivera Continues Push for Free Trade with Colombia
Florida Republican U.S. Rep. David Rivera, a member of the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, met with Colombian Ambassador Gabriel Silva to reiterate his support for free trade with that South American nation.
Colombia is one of our best allies in Latin America, said Rivera. Passing the Colombia Free Trade Agreement would provide an immediate boost to our economy by eliminating trade barriers and boosting U.S. exports to Colombia.U.S. GDP would increase by roughly $2.5 billion and exports by over a billion, creating thousands of jobs in the United States.
The United States must lead on ensuring economic stability in Latin America, continued Rivera, who was one of 67 House freshmen to send a letter backing the agreement. Approving pending free trade agreements with Colombia and Panama and the extension of the Andean Trade Preference Act, which will especially help Colombia maintain a stable and fully functioning economy, are steps in the right direction to keep trade avenues open between the United States and Latin America.
